I el disc català de l'any és...

Isaac Ulam - En els prats més llunyans.

Per mE clar. No sé què dirà l'Enderrock, de fet mE la porta ben fluixa el què diguin aquests, però aquest és sens dubte un dels pocs treballs realment original, atrevit i fresc que m'ha arribat des de casa nostra aquest passat any 2008.
De fet, mE'l va passar al Cercle personalment l'amic Txutxi Izquierdo (ex-The Lazy Sundays) per punxar-lo al mEu programa: Ciutat florida de Ràdio Salt.
Folk reposat tot sovint amb aires de conte, a ritme de circ gairebé de vegades, amb accent mediterrani i un imaginari un xic hippie, però amb melodies arrossegades prou suggerents.
La calma i la tranquilitat dominen el disc. Els arranjaments, de percussió la majoria, il·luminen la malenconia que s'ensuma en totes i cada una de les deu cançons de l'àlbum. La lírica és clarament poètica i dibuixa amb precisió paissatges de muntanya, d'hivern cru. Històries tristes de cels trencats, de volcans, de camins, de noies amb cargols de mar a les mans, d'estanys, de caçadors, de boscos i arbres, de conills morts, de gats, de patir, de perdre el gos, de dormir plegats, de fonts i bars, de desfer el llit i estimar-se, de tocar el tambor... Com veieu un ric imaginari, en essència rural.
Un disc lleuger i tendre. Sorprenentment impecable malgrat el semblant deixat.
10 cançons com 10 sols, o 10 llunes.
Tota una agradable sorpresa i un rara avis dins l'esquifida escena independent gironina.

El millor del 2008 segons mE

Vet-ho aquí una altra de les sorpreses més agradables que he tingut en el darrer any. Arribava des de San Francisco, California. El noi es diu Blake Henderson, artísticament parlant però, i acompanyat de tota una banda magnífica és: TaughtMe, i varen fer un dels millors concerts de la temporada al Cafè El Cercle de Girona.
Si hi ha una cosa que destaca per sobre de la resta en les cançons del seu darrer disc: Lady, és la seva veu, sens dubte. Força aguda, i gairebé en falset tot sovint, ilumina com pocs artistes del nou segle les seves precioses cançons pop que cavalquen sobre la tensió de l'electrònica.

Lady està publicat pel segell de Luxemburg: Own Records, i és un recull impresionant d'artesania pop impecable i brillant. Exhuberant.
Focs artificials per encetar i tancar un disc de tendres i reposades melodies que assoleixen el cim, sens dubte, en: I told you so. Potser la cançó més vital, animada i saltarina del disc. Aixó hauria de ser un excel·lent hit incontestable de totes totes. Si més no a les emisores independents, és a dir, totes aquelles amb un criteri artístic i no comercial. Però hi ha molta més llum i molts més brillants dins aquest àlbum.Dearest és la mena de cançó de bressol que m'agradaria cantar als mEus fills, si els tingués clar. The Flaming Lips no quedarien massa lluny d'alguns dels moments d'aquesta maravellosa passejada celestial. A Strangeness l'inspiració no afluixa i els referents podrien continuar sent els mateixos com en Stomping of boots.
Un altre disc excepcional d'aquest any que ens acaba de deixar i que no hauria de quedar oblidat.

Més discos del 2008,... ara si. :)

És curiós, però un dels millors àlbums que ha caigut a les mEves mans aquest darrer any ha estat un CD-r, el d'aquest paio: Toby Goodshank. Un ex-Moldy Peaches amb una carrera en solitari però del tot destacable. El disc del febrer del 2008 es titula Pray to you.

Va ser tot un luxe tenir-lo actuant al Cercle junt amb l'encantadora Dizzy Spells Martian.
El disc barreja cançons en el format clàssic del folk, veu i guitarra, amb altres de més experimentals i d'aires més pop, exquísit naturalment. També es passeja sense complexes pel hip hop amb arranjaments psicodèlics i realment encertats en: Sick of this o Walk away.
Un disc excepcional de principi a final. Podriem dir alló de... t'agradarà si t'agraden: Guided by Voices o Beck.
Ja sé que semblen paraules majors, però escolteu-vos el disc per poc que pogueu i sortireu de dubtes.
Curtet, 28 minuts dura, però intens. Fa seva aquella màxima que diu que poc és més perquè el disc malgrat els detalls és senzill però arriba a l'essència sense recargolaments innecessaris.
Melodies inspiradíssimes i transportadores. Gran.
Molt gran.

Escolto a My Name Is Nobody, un jove francés que vaig tenir el plaer de conèixer en persona a propòsit de la gira que va fer ara fa tot just uns mesos amb els ianquis Pillars & Tongues.

És un disc excepcional de cançons tristes, lleugeres, sensibles. Pop amb accent folk. Veu i guitarra, però també amb tota una banda acompanyant la desolació. Cançons que arriben a on han d'arribar.
A l'ànima.
Ja ho sé, és de l'any 2006 però jo l'he descobert ara. Ho sento.

El que sí que voldria dir és que malauradament, el baixista i el guitarrista habituals de la banda no hi seran. Sé que podria semblar un problema, perquè la formació estaria una mica coixa, però ho compensarem perquè el públic ens agafarà amb moltíssimes ganes.
